How to Experience the Soul of Rajasthan's Timeless Culture?

Duration: It will take one 6-9 days to visit all the major cultural sights of Rajasthan.

This tour from Jaisalmer to Jaipur is ideal for cultural enthusiasts looking to dive deep into Rajasthan's heritage and discover the vibrant cities, soulful traditions, and timeless artistry.

You can begin your journey in Jaisalmer, which is only about a 1.5-hour flight from Delhi. The first spot is the UNESCO World Heritage site Jaisalmer Fort, also called the Golden Fort. It is the only surviving fort in India and has a palace, shops, temples, restaurants, hotels, and old havelis (houses). After that, you'll visit Patwaon Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli, two of the town's historic havelis. Next you will visit the ChandraPrabhu Jain temple and move on to enjoy the famous light and sound show at the Gandisar lake.

From here it takes one hour to reach the Thar Desert. At the desert campsite, you will meet your camel and guide and find a place to watch the sun set over the sea of sand. After watching the colorful sunset, dine under the twinkling stars of the night sky.

After bidding farewell to the golden city, your 4-hour road journey to Jodhpur will begin. The blue city, where the Mehrangarh Fort towers 400 feet above indigo-painted houses. The fort contains a museum that displays various royal belongings. Just a few kilometers away is Mandore Gardens, a place for history buffs to sneak a peek into the history and learn more about its culture. One of the most remarkable features of this garden is the Mandare Fort, whose ruins can still be seen to appreciate its magnificent architecture.

After that, you will take a tour of the Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum, explore the clock tower market , and see the restored Toorji ka Jhalra Bavdi.

Known as the city of lakes, you will take a scenic 5 hour drive to Udaipur. The roads are curvy but beautiful. As you watch the landscape transform from arid plains to rolling hills, you will reach the City Palace of Udaipur, which was built by the Maharajas of Mewar. Surrounded by Aravali hills, the palace offers a panoramic view of the city from its terrace. Visit the exquisite Jagdish temple, Monsoon Palace, and the Lake Palace. Enjoy a traditional Rajasthani lunch then take a relaxing boat ride on Lake Pichola while admiring the Gangaur Ghat scenery.

Then we'll head to our final destination, the pink city of Jaipur. Amer Fort is one of Jaipur's top tourist attractions that sits atop a small hill overlooking Maota Lake. While enjoying the views of this beautifully carved fort, you will walk through the diwan-e-aam, Shila Mata Mandir, and the Sukh Mahal. It takes 45 minutes to 90 minutes to complete a tour of Amer Fort.

Visit the City Palace Museum, which showcases Rajasthani traditions and offers insight into Jaipur's royal past. Take a tour of the Jal Mahal, then indulge in some authentic Rajasthani cuisine (Dal Baati Churma, Litti Chokha etc) at a luxurious Indian restaurant. For the best jewelry and textiles, visit the Johri Bazaar, one of India's most well-known traditional marketplaces.

The next day, you will visit the iconic Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar. Then, with your guide, go on an exhilarating private Panther safari ride in Jhalana to see Panthers, hyenas, leopards, and desert foxes.

TL;DR: Journey through Rajasthan's vibrant culture from Jaisalmer's golden fort and desert camps to Jodhpur's blue-painted houses, Udaipur's serene lakes, and Jaipur's grand palaces.

Plan your royal Rajasthan journey

What is it like to Live Like Royalty in Rajasthan's Grand Palaces?

If you want to live life like a maharaja, there is no better place than Rajasthan. Synonymous with splendor and grandeur, Rajasthan has no shortage of royal palaces turned luxurious hotels.
From Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer to Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace and Udaipur’s Taj Lake Palace, a floating marvel on Lake Pichola, to Rambagh Palace in Jaipur.

You can begin your journey from the Taj Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, which was built in 1835.

It was once a royal guesthouse and hunting lodge, adorned with hand-carved marble latticework, sandstone balustrades, and lush Mughal gardens.

One of its many well-known restaurants is Suvarna Mahal, which serves Royal Indian cuisine and is located in the palace ballroom. You can also indulge in a variety of cuisines at the Rajput Room and finger food at the Polo Bar. Enjoy a meal outside at Verandah, and then head to Steam (a unique lounge bar )in a restored train car with a steam engine, for an evening cocktail. You can explore the palace's rich history on a heritage walk or treat yourself to spa treatments and yoga inspired by Ayurveda at the Wellness Corner.

After bidding farewell to the Pink City, you will head to Jodhpur's magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace, where the royal family still resides in a separate wing. Like the Maharajas, dine on recipes handed down from generations of royal chefs at the Risala restaurant. Enjoy a vintage wine or the latest cocktail sensation at the sports-themed bar, which displays the real hunting artifacts. You can also go to some of Jodhpur's most well-known sites, such as Jaswant Thada and Mehrangarh Fort.

You can travel to Udaipur's Taj Lake Palace through a 5 hour private cab drive from Jodhpur, a pristine white marble palace that floats on Lake Pichola like a dream. Every glance here reveals breathtaking views of the magnificent city of Udaipur, the serene lake, and the rolling hills. Indulge in authentic Rajasthani delicacies at Neel Kamal, savor European dishes at Bhairo, or enjoy world cuisine at Jharokha restaurant. Eating a candlelit dinner overlooking the lake is a truly magical experience. Enjoy signature cocktails at Amrit Sagar bar, and then luxuriate at the Wellness Circle.

We reach our final destination. In the middle of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer's Suryagarh Palace offers a haven amidst the vast, untouched landscape. The rooms here provide cozy retreats with veranda and turret views, combining historic charm with modern comforts that are ideal for visitors seeking style and leisure. Indulge in an exquisite dinner on serene dunes under the moonlight for an unforgettable experience. You can enjoy a drink at the Draksh bar or relax in the in-house spa, Rait.

Where Can You Witness India's Majestic Tigers in Their Natural Kingdom?

Awaken your wild side in the dense jungle of Ranthambore. Ranthambore is the best Tiger Reserve in India to witness tigers in their real habitat. The several dozen Bengal Tigers that live here can be seen wandering through the park’s picturesque ruins, including the Ranthambore fort and the remains of ancient temples.

There’s much more to see here other than the national animal of India, the forest is alive with the alarm calls of sambar deer, Chital, galloping nilgai, leopards, hyenas, loping sloth bears, and wild boars.

If you want a more exciting experience, spend your night in one of the luxurious tents; if you want a more comfortable stay, stay at the Oberoi Vanyavilas, which is only ten minutes from the park. While listening to live folk music, you can savor authentic Rajasthani food at the Resort's restaurant. You can relax by the fireside while sipping fine wine and cocktails at the bar, where the walls feature oil paintings of a human-captured Ranthambore tigress.

I would suggest you go between October and March for good tiger sightings in pleasant weather. You can reach here via a 3-hour private taxi drive from Jaipur.

How Can You Experience a Luxury Desert Safari Like a King?

One of the most incredible places in Rajasthan, and my favorite to experience the beauty of the desert. The desert scenery, the busy fort, the people, and the architecture all give you the genuine impression that you have traveled back in time. Going for a wander through Jaisalmer is the best thing to do in the city, you will find unique buildings, beautiful shops, and amazing cafes. Entry to the fort is totally free, so you can spend as much time as you want here exploring the chaotic streets of the golden city.

You can reach the Thar Desert through a one-hour drive from the main city. At the desert camping site, you will meet your guide and your camel. The best months for a desert safari are from October to March, as it's pleasant during the day and not very cold at night. The best timing for a camel safari is in the afternoon from 4:30 pm onwards till sunset.

Enjoy the golden dunes before sunset, and then you can find a spot to watch the sun sink low in the sea of sand. There’s something magical about having dinner under the stars while camping in the Thar Desert. You can spend a night here at one of the luxurious camps.

TL;DR: Experience the timeless magic of Jaisalmer's Thar Desert with afternoon camel rides through golden dunes, stunning sunsets over endless sand, and enchanting dinners under starlit skies.

FAQs

1. Is the Hawa Mahal disability-friendly?
Yes, there are no stairs despite the building having five floors. You can go from one floor to another using ramps. Rajput women from royal families were traditionally carried in palanquins, which were easier to move up ramps than stairs, which is why the monument has ramps instead of stairs.

2. How many days do I need to explore Rajasthan properly?
For a cultural tour covering Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaipur, you'll need 6-9 days. However, if you're focusing on just the desert safari or Ranthambore wildlife experience, 2-3 days is sufficient.

3. What's the best time to visit Rajasthan?
October to March is the best time for visiting Rajasthan, as the weather is pleasant during the day and comfortable at night, perfect for desert safaris, wildlife sightings, and exploring forts and palaces without the intense summer heat.

“I would highly recommend this company!”

“I came in a group of 5 young women and we were a little nervous about coming to India. TRAVELOSEI made us feel very safe here. They picked us up from our hotel and even though we had a plan of things we wanted to visit, they are very flexible. We made several detours each day and they took us wherever we wanted to go. The drivers were excellent and the tour guides were very knowledgable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them, we will absolutely use them when we come back!”

“We had a terrific time!”

“I went to India with a few coworkers for a business trip and we booked a Taj Mahal tour on our 24 hr layover in Delhi. Travelosei took care of everything - they organized the car transport (including a last minute swap when we had to switch hotels) and planned a lovely tour of Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and a few artisans. At every stop, we skipped the lines and our guide Talib knew all the best places to get great views and take nice pictures of us. He also shared a lot of history as we walked through the sites. We had a terrific time and cannot recommend TRAVELOSEI enough.”

“Thank you so much TRAVELOSEI”

“The amount of knowledge and details in his stories as well as history. He was also wonderful at guiding us through the local culture how to act where how and what not to. Javed was very patient and very kind to my many questions about the smallest things. Such a good experience with TRAVELOSEI in general. This was our second trip to Agra but the first time with them. And what a pleasure. When I come back or I know anyone going to Agra I will diffidently suggest them to have Javed to guide them around if he has time. Thank you so much TRAVELOSEI”
