START PLANNINGGir in Gujarat is the last remaining natural habitat of the majestic Asiatic lion in the world. Nowhere else on Earth can you see these incredible big cats in the wild. Gir's successful conservation story has brought lions back from near extinction to a thriving population.
Lion sightings at Gir are excellent with most visitors spotting them within 2-3 times of a lion safari. The healthy lion population and relatively open terrain make encounters likely. You may see prides resting under trees, males patrolling territories, playful cubs, or even witness hunting behavior and social interactions.
December to March offers the most pleasant weather for safaris with comfortable temperatures and good visibility. April and May, though hotter, provide excellent sightings as lions frequent waterholes. The park remains open mid-October to mid-June, closing during monsoon months.
