Landing in Leh at 11,500 feet is breathtaking. A private transfer from the airport will bring you to your gorgeous mountain resort stay. The most important thing on day one is rest to let your body adjust to the altitude. In the late afternoon, you can choose to take a gentle walk around Leh Market and Main Bazaar.
Your tour starts with Leh Palace– a 17th-century nine-storey royal residence with panoramic views of the valley. Head to Shanti Stupa for a meditative stop and more sweeping vistas. In the afternoon, visit Hemis Monastery and Thiksey Monastery.
Today's a highlight. Cross the world-famous Khardung La Pass — one of the highest motorable roads on earth at 17,500 feet — and descend into the magical Nubra Valley. The landscape shifts dramatically: cold desert sand dunes appear beside lush green villages. Take a ride on the double-humped Bactrian camels at Hunder Sand Dunes against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks — it's surreal and unlike anything else. Stay overnight in a camp or guesthouse in Nubra for the full experience.
Rise early and drive to Pangong Tso — the iconic high-altitude lake that stretches across India and China at 14,000 feet. No photograph does it justice. The water shifts from deep blue to turquoise to silver depending on the light and time of day. You can extend your trip if you wish to camp overnight near the lake for a star-gazing experience.

Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit places like Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri — these are easy to obtain online or in Leh within a few hours. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP) and must travel in a group of at least two with a registered tour operator.
Ladakh is very safe and welcoming — but altitude sickness is real and shouldn't be taken lightly. Leh sits at 11,500 feet, and symptoms like headaches, nausea, and breathlessness are common in the first 24–48 hours. The golden rule is simple: rest on day one, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and don't rush. If symptoms worsen, descending to a lower altitude and seeking medical help quickly is the right call.
June to September is the sweet spot — roads are open, the weather is clear, and both Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake are fully accessible. October brings stunning autumn colours and thinner crowds. Winter (November to February) is extreme, with temperatures dropping to -20°C and many roads closing — but for seasoned travellers, a frozen Chadar Trek on the iced-over Zanskar River is a bucket-list experience. If it's your first visit, aim for July or August for the most complete and comfortable trip.
