This is the heart of the park and the most popular safari zone. Open meadows called maidans stretch across this zone, making it easier to spot tigers.
Sitting right next to Kanha zone, Kisli is where most of the park's lodges and entry gates are located. The forest here is a good mix of open grassland and dense tree cover.
A newer zone opened to give visitors more ground to explore. The landscape is wilder and less tracked, which makes safaris here feel a little more raw and off the beaten path.

START PLANNINGThe park is open from October to June. February to May is considered the best time for wildlife sightings, especially tigers, as the forest thins out and animals gather near water. October and November are also very pleasant with cooler temperatures and freshly reopened trails after the monsoon break.
Jeep safaris are available in both morning and evening slots across all zones and are the best way to explore the park. Canter safaris are available in the buffer zones for larger groups. For the most comfortable and personalised experience, a private jeep safari with a trained naturalist guide is highly recommended.
The nearest airport is at Jabalpur, around 160 kilometres from the Kisli gate. Gondia in Maharashtra is another option for those coming from the south, at about 145 kilometres from the Mukki gate. The nearest railway station is Jabalpur.
