Bali, Indonesia, is not only picturesque but also one of the most unforgettable cultural journeys one can embark on. Renowned for its iconic volcanic mountains, idyllic beaches, and rich culture, there’s something for everyone in this home not so far away from home. If it’s your first time thinking about Bali or you’re coming across this article by chance, then fret not, because we’re about to cover everything you need to know before you plan your Bali trip. From flights and visa requirements to the best stop to pop a bottle of bubbly or immerse yourself in cultural tranquility, there’s something in this guide for everyone.

Is Bali expensive?

No, actually quite the opposite, with a trip to Bali being cheaper, being a fraction of the cost of a Europe trip, as well as being cheaper than traveling domestically at times. We’ll cover the total expenses further in this article.

Navigating Flights and Visa Rules for a Stress-Free Trip

First things first, how are you getting there? The easiest and most efficient way to reach Bali from Australia is to take. Flight timings, on average, are about 6-7 hours unless you’re flying out from Perth; then you’ll be able to reach your destination within 2-3 hours. Direct flights to Bali are available from all the major Australian airports: Sydney (SYD), Melbourne (MEL), Brisbane (BNE), and Perth PER). Sydney airlines would be MEL Star, Virgin Australia, and Qantas.

Before departing you need to get your visa in order, Australian passport holder require an electronic visa arrival which is also known as an e-VOA or a standard visa to entire Bali, this can cost about $55 and lasts you upto 30 days, before you leave Australia you need to register for a Bali tourist levy and submit an all INdonia Arrival card within 72 hours of your flight and this card will cost you about $15.

You can apply for your visa on the official VFS Global Indonesia eVOA Portal at least 48 hours before flying. This provides access to fast-track automated E-gates at the Ngu. This is the airport. You must pay the environmental tax and the Bali tourist levy before you depart. You can do the same from the official Love Bali App or another platform to avoid queues upon your arrival in Bali. All customs requirements can be fulfilled online. It's important to generate your All Indonesia Arrival Card within 2 days of your trip so that you can generate the customs QR code at the airport. Otherwise, you will find issues and find yourself stuck in long, unnecessary queues once you arrive, which can be entirely avoidable by following these quick, simple steps online before arriving.

Lastly, ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months before your entry date. You must also have proof of a return flight to Australia for the process to be complete.

TL;DR: You need an e-visa, must pay the tourist fine, and have a valid passport up to 6 months before you visit Bali.

Honeymooning in Bali: Packages Made for Two

The perfect romantic getaway- looking to get away from huge crowds and wanting a slice of luxury for themselves,- seriously, you could have a beautiful, exotic, and indulgent honeymoon here for a fraction of the price that you’d spend on a holiday away in Europe or Bora Bor,.It’s a winner all the way around. Now, the possibilities of what you and your other half can do in Bali are endless. It completely depends on what type of honeymoon you’re looking to have. If it’s a tranquil, soothing beach vacation, then Uluwatu is the place to explore, or you can wake up in a private villa over the zen jungle. In Ubud, the Gilis Islands, Seminyak, and Canggu are the best places to blow off some post-wedding steam and party with the local community.

The point is, whether you’re looking for an outdoor adventure or looking to relax in a 5-star resort, Bali has both of you covered; put your faith in the Balinese magic. According to JETSET Christina, the best way to make the most out of your time in Bali is to travel to 2 different destinations during your Bali Trip to get the best experience. Honeymoon packages usually take you to a resort in Ubud, where you can relax amidst nature, which is then followed up by tours of the nearby area. Luxurious time is spent in the hotel and spa. Adventure sports like jet skiing and parasailing are also often included in these packages. Chill on the stunning beaches and enjoy the romantic sunsets in the Gilis; go further and explore the dramatic cliffs and hidden coves on a tour to Nusa Penida.

As we mentioned before, all of these experiences are tailored, and you and your partner can pick whatever type of vacation you want in this versatile destination, which makes for the ideal getaway.

Family Bali Holiday Packages, Including Flight and Kid-Friendly Stays

With direct flights from all the major cities and at such an affordable rate, this has been a fan favourite for family vacations, being one of the most accessible destinations without the jet lag of a long-haul trip. These packages cover everything we’ve talked about before but, in addition, add a little recreation for kids, with kids' clubs, family pools, and connecting rooms, taking out a lot of kids' stress from planning the perfect trip.

The most popular areas for families will be Nusa Dua and Seminyak, which have calmer beaches and shallow pools. The resorts are designed for kids whilst still having proximity to other attractions like the rice terraces and the beloved waterparks. One could even take a detour and explore Ubud’s Monkey Forest.
.
With the Aussie dollar stretching further in Bali, these packages often work out much better than even a domestic trip, and they’re huge crowd pleasers for the whole family, creating room for memories that’ll last beyond a lifetime.

Sundown is when Bali truly changes its colours; it revitalises itself into something no one expected. When the sun goes down, Bali really comes alive, and for the youth chasing a good night out, a few spots stand out from the rest.

Seminyak and Kuta remain the best places to go for the perfect over-the-counter cocktails and late-night clubs that’ll keep you standing on your feet well past midnight, with popular spots with DJs known for their sets right on the sand. Another spot that really stands out is Canggu which has evolved into being a more chill, alternative cooler place to hang out if you’re looking for something tore laidback, it’s packed with rooftops bars, live music and a is filled with a strong nomad, backpacker crowd, so it’s the perfect place to meet all sorts of interesting and cool people from all different walks of life.

For those wanting a bigger and much more polished club experience, some of Bali's largest nightclubs draw huge crowds with international DJs and elaborate themed nights, making them a must-visit for anyone looking to properly let loose. Whether you're island hopping between beach bars by day or dancing until sunrise, Bali's nightlife hubs offer something for every kind of party seeker, all without needing to venture too far from your accommodation.

Rejuvenate in Bali: Wellness and Spa Getaways

Known for building its global reputation as a wellness destination, it’s not hard to see why you wouldn’t want to experience this first hand with Udbud sitting right at the heart of this scene, in the midst of the lush jungle and rice paddies providing the opportunity to experience everything traditional Balinese massages and herbal Jamu treatments to full day yoga retreats and sessions that are led by experienced local instructors.

These resorts are aligned with wellness,s and the retreats feel like something right out of TooHandHandlen Love Island, an island minus all the crazy drama. With spa treatments to plant-based menus that make for the perfect detox, you tailor at your own pace, really embrace the ethos of slow travel, and just get away from the world for a bit and reset your neural pathways from within. Coastal areas like Canggu and Uluwatu have also taken to embracing this wellness movement, offering beachside yoga classes with spa days and clean-eating cafes so that you can lie back and be assisted with your health goals whilst lying down facing a stunning ocean. Whether you’re looking to spend an indulgent spa day or a multiday wellness retreat built around your health goals, Bali offers both variety and affordability that make it one of the easiest places to genuinely rejuvenate on holiday.

TL; DR: Shop at local markets in Ubud, enjoy rejuvenation in Uluwatu with beachside yoga sessions.

Immersing Yourself in Bali's Rich Culture and Traditions

For those looking to go beyond the beaches and resorts, it’s important to note that the culture of Bali runs far deeper than its beaches and resorts, and taking the time to explore it adds a whole new layer to any trip. Ubud remains the cultural heart of the island, the holding place for centuries-old temples like Tirta Empul and Goa Gajah. Hosting visitors with cultural live performances of traditional dances and the marketplace, where you can watch the local artisans at work. As well as shop locally for goods and items you wouldn’t get back home at a fraction of the cost whilst also supporting a growing economy.

Immerse yourself in the culture by attending a temple ceremony; even as a respectful observer, it offers you a rare glimpse into Bali's deeply spiritual Hindu traditions, particularly during major festivals like Nyepi. During this time, the entire island changes its mood. When the entire island transforms with offerings, processions, and elaborate decorations, you can all be a part of it and contribute to it depending on your liking.

Smaller villagers across the island hold on to the traditional crafts and styles from decades back with wood carvings and silver jewelry making, giving travelers the chance to pick up a genuinely handmade souvenir whilst supporting local communities, as we’ve mentioned before. Being part of the culture is where the true fun lies, whether that’s going to a cooking class to learn traditional Balinese cooking or watching a Kecak fire dance at sunset; there’s something for everyone here to feel like they’re part of the forces that make up the community here in Bali. Immersing yourself in the Balinese culture is the best way to make the trip go from being just a Balinese trip to a memorable memory you’ll carry with you and share long after.

How to Pick the Best Package for Your 2026-2027 Trip

With all things considered and mentioned, now comes the difficult part: picking between all the different packages. Choosing the right holiday package for 2026 - 2027 comes down to matching your intentions with the inclusions. Now what does that mean? In simple terms, it basically means choosing where you want to go with what you want to do. If you’re looking to party and spend time doing adventure sports, then Seminyak is the right place for you, but if you’re looking for something more tranquil, then go for a place like Ubud. Always start by checking what’s offered within the bundles you’re opting for.

Certain bundles might even go as far as covering things like your flights and accommodation, while others also throw in the benefits of airport transfers and daily breakfast, or even a couple of tours, which can save you a lot of the hassle of planning.
Once again, location is key; for families that are looking for calm beaches and child-friendly resorts, Nusa Dua will suit you, getting you away from the nightlife and the buzzy crowds.

It’s also worth noting which season is ideal for travel, as there are shifts in the pricing for a Bali vacation between the dry and wet seasons. Ideally, the dry season from April to October and this would be the best time to go, making this the perfect summer trip for you, so booking early for peak periods like school holidays or New Year's is generally a smart move.

Finally, always read the fine print on cancellation policies and travel insurance inclusions, since flexibility matters more than ever when planning a couple of years out, and a package that offers free date changes can be worth paying slightly more for.

Another destination that is closer to home and would be a viable option for a holiday getaway would be the relaxing, timeless, effortless Kerala backwaters in India. Enjoy Alleppey, similar to the islands of Bali, featuring houseboat trips and a mix of narrow and wide canals, or even Kumarakom for high-end resorts and indulgent luxury traveling. Unlike Bali, the best time to plan a trip here is during the cooler months, from November onward, so you get a perfect balance of the 2 places.

The drivers were excellent and the tour guides were very knowledgable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them, we will absolutely use them when we come back!”

“We had a terrific time!”

“I went to India with a few coworkers for a business trip and we booked a Taj Mahal tour on our 24 hr layover in Delhi. Travelosei took care of everything - they organized the car transport (including a last minute swap when we had to switch hotels) and planned a lovely tour of Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and a few artisans. At every stop, we skipped the lines and our guide Talib knew all the best places to get great views and take nice pictures of us. He also shared a lot of history as we walked through the sites. We had a terrific time and cannot recommend TRAVELOSEI enough.”

“The amount of knowledge and details in his stories as well as history. He was also wonderful at guiding us through the local culture how to act where how and what not to. Javed was very patient and very kind to my many questions about the smallest things. Such a good experience with TRAVELOSEI in general. This was our second trip to Agra but the first time with them. And what a pleasure. When I come back or I know anyone going to Agra I will diffidently suggest them to have Javed to guide them around if he has time. Thank you so much TRAVELOSEI”
