START PLANNINGOctober to March is ideal with pleasant weather for temple hopping. Janmashtami (Krishna's birthday) in August or September is the grandest celebration but gets extremely crowded. Holi celebrations here are legendary but very chaotic and colorful.
Dress conservatively with covered shoulders and knees. Many temples require you to remove shoes outside. Women should carry a scarf or dupatta. Some temples don't allow leather items inside so plan accordingly.
You can cover the major temples in a day but to truly experience the devotional atmosphere, stay overnight. Early morning and evening aartis are the highlights. Two days lets you explore at a comfortable pace and attend multiple ceremonies.
